Beauty: Mushroom Nails

It seems that the neutral and nude colours influence that’s continued into 2010 is not just for clothing – it’s translated onto nail polish too.

Last season, we reported on Chanel’s Jade green polish which make-up junkies went mad for and which at one point was selling on eBay for minimum bids of over €100!

As ever, Chanel started the craze when they showcased their SS 10 collection in Paris last October when Lily Allen wore the shade during her performance on the Chanel “stage”. Another more recent appearance was by Golden Globe winner Sandra Bullock, pictured.

I’d call it a “mushroom” colour (they are offficially calling this “taupe”) – in fact the Chanel colour called Particulière is in fact a brown-grey shade with lilac undertones – hence you see the match with Sandra Bullock’s dress, right?

As the Chanel waiting list is most likely full, you could try this cheaper alternative: The Jermyn Street Nail Polish in Soft Taupe from Nails Inc in BT2 or online from John Lewis (£10.28, €11.82 currency converted from pounds to euro on say of publication). I prefer this one which is less “muddy” than the Chanel version.

Otherwise, if you’d like to try this shade as a once off, Nails Inc in BT2 Grafton St, Dundrum and Blanchardstown can apply it for you. I do find the lowest priced Nails Inc manicure a lot more expensive than my local salon, but if you’re an O2 customer there’s a 10% off voucher on the BT2 page of the 02 Blueroom.  Every little helps (no plugs for Tesco or BT2 or O2 intended!).

My own personal favourite nail polish shade for days like this (inspired by Chanel all be it about 16 years ago) is the cherry black colour  – which is more vamp than ethereal – but if this new colour makes me look as sophisticado as Ms. Bullock, I’m willing to give it a go once the days become finer.

I am looking forward to the nudes of S/S 10 so much. I don’t follow tends but this one might be worth it! And the white coat trend.

Yes, thanks for the reminder about the white coats Alice…I can only go for pure whites (no mauve, cream or ivory shades) and am looking out for one. hard to keep clean mind you but very chic!
