Ask the Stylist: Slips

Dear Ask the Stylist

I have a see through/sheer dress and need a slip to go underneath. Can you recommend a good one? I wouldn’t have a clue where to look as I’ve never had a slip before!

Gone are the days of old fashioned, flimsy slips your mother might wear under practically every dress. These days slips have upped the ante and, luckily for us, incorporate all kinds of support wear.

Spanx, who are fantastic at all things in the “control underwear” department, have a support slip , which comes in black or nude (£66 mytights.com). They also have strapless versions.

If you can afford it, the top of the range is Roland Mouret’s Powermesh dress (£265, netaporter.com). This baby will  mould you into an incredible shape and is invisible under whatever you’re wearing.

Wolford, a favourite of mine for classy opaque tights, have a super slip which gives you a “boob lift”– Natural Light Forming Dress (£139, wolfordshop.co.uk).

Slip any of these ones on, and the holding in will follow.
