Dear Ask the Stylist
I bought a fab maxi dress for a casual wedding in September. Its chiffon silk mix and has blue, pink, green and cream colours in it, is sleeveless with a high round neck. The under layer is a sky blue colour and then the over layer is all the above colours. I’d like to know, since the wedding is casual – should I add a blazer and something in my hair and if so, what would you suggest? Or just leave it at the dress? I don’t want to insult the bride by being underdressed either! I hope you can help! L.W via email.
The many colours in the dress sound gorgeous but there’s a lot going on so I would keep your accessories neutral.
Add nice shoes and jewellery and don’t wear a headpiece if it’s a casual wedding. You will still look dressy by accessorising but it will be a more understated look.
Shoes
These Dune t-bar bewelled sandalsat House of Fraser will work with a summer maxi dress.
Cover-up
For cover-ups, if the dress has a hot pink in it, this Topshop blazer would work wonderfully.
Alternatively, go for a neutral pashmina or if you like a vintage look, try this lace cape, also from Topshop. It’s hard to tell fully without seeing the dress.
Bag
Finally, team the dress with a neutral coloured clutch bag such as this one from Boohoo.com.
Enjoy the wedding!
