Apprentice Style

By Frances Macken

The new series of the Irish Apprentice is about to start tonight on TV3 and it’s got me thinking about the power dress.

I’m seeing a lot of slim line office dresses on the high street with skinny sleeves and discreet shoulder pads in greys, blacks and strong primary colours. Pair them with some t-bar spiky patent shoes, patterned or coloured tights and soon everyone will know who’s boss!

Who else has been strutting around like they own the place? We’ve seen the power dress on Victoria Beckham and Michelle Obama (pictured) who, let’s face it – always look preened and professional.

Pictured here, Michelle wears a blue dress by Chicago based designer Maria Pinto.

I’m a huge fan of the trend and have snapped up two great dresses at Dorothy Perkins this month, the first one being this grey and black dress (pictured left £32, €35) and the next is this black batwing dress, (picturedright £40, €45 ).

So, if you want the part you’ve got to look the part so let’s hope this year’s female candidates on The Apprentice dress to impress!

Some dresses I have are very short when I sit down, may not be right for every situation – some dresses are strictly for perching on bar stools and standing around posing! I’ve learnt to do the sit down test if I intend it for work.

I thought power dressing was all about the large shoulder pads this season..a la Balmain and Balenciaga .. the old Dynasty days of power dressing with the shoulder pads .. without the frizzy hair are back ! Skirts very short,.. hmmmm not so sure would bode well in the office I am in. ..

Ah well.. we can always apply for next years Apprentice.. the Donald Trump one..

The Victoria Beckham style dresses are like tailored dresses rather than strong shoulders which I prefer as it’s not for everyone, though they are everywhere this weather!
