This month we take a peek inside the covetable closet of Angela Scanlon.
A woman of many sartorial talents, Angela has also added journalist and TV presenter to her ever expanding CV. Her work can be seen in top Irish publication’s including Image Magazine and Tatler and she was recently snapped up to be the face of Alwear TV here and in the UK.
Log on to her personal blog http://www.angelascanlon.com/ for pictures of her stunning editorial work and her general musing on a life in style.
So without further ado, here Angela shares her insider’s picks for the summer season:
Labels She Loves
When she hits the shops, Angela chooses affordable investment pieces from the higher-end high-street selection: “Topshop rocks my world! They’re totally on top of trends and even setting them with the Unique collection, I also think their collaborations are the best! Apart from that Zara is amazing for designer looking pieces and BT2 is ace for in-betweeny brands-especially Maje and COS (4).”
Sunglasses
A self-confessed “sunnies fiend” she likes something a little quirky that will add to her entire ensemble as well as shield her eyes from the summer sun: I’m obsessed with Cutler & Gross and will always regret not getting the Erdem floral ones they did a couple of seasons back. I was recently tipped off about Liberty print sunnies by Super Future Proof (Pictured 1 ) which are cool.
Handbag
As a woman constantly on the go, trapezing across town from fashion shoots to shows, Angela needs a bag that is as functional as it is fashionable. For this reason, she chooses Pauric Sweeny to stash her everyday essentials in.
“Pauric is a friend and thankfully I get a sneak into his sample sale before most! I have a couple of his bags, the gold python (pictured 2) one always sparks interest but his understated styles are so chic and beautiful.”
Accessories
Angela’s fingers are constantly adorned in the most ornate rings. She teams YSL classics with Topshop trend pieces to create a look that’s all her own. Her other accessories are generally unusual pieces she picks up from independent jewellers: “I only wear gold, not always real!
Alex Monroe for necklaces, I have the Bumble Bee and my eyes firmly fixed on the Feather. I also wear tonnes of rings – YSL, Daisy Jewellery, Monika Vinader, Topshop-anything really! “
Makeup
Despite her hectic schedule, Angela manages to remain fresh-faced. Her secret is just that; very little foundation. Though she’s a low maintenance girl when it comes to slap, she’s still rarely spotted without her signature pop of bright lipstick: “I’m not very adventurous with makeup, I hate the feeling of heavy foundation and think it looks very dated and tacky! I use Make Up Forever HD foundation and pretty much the rest of my make up bag is MAC-mascara, eyeliner, blusher and lippie. I also love the new Tom Ford lipsticks-really moisturising and nourishing. Because I keep my make up pretty natural I tend to play up my lips with red, pink or orange-all matte at the moment. Brighton Rocks from Topshop is a secret favourite.”
Skincare
Our guest editor is blessed with a porcelain appearance. Nonetheless, to keep her skin looking youthful she invests in high quality products: “I’m kind of obsessed with Triolgy. My skin is very sensitive so I need to use natural products. The cream cleanser is unbelievable and apparently tipped by Vogue as the ‘Rolls Royce’ of cleansers, that’s good enough for me! I also use Le Roche Posay SPF, Trilogy Rosehip oil and I have a pot of Crème de la Mere that I use when I’m hungover!”
Jeans
Angela’s thrifty when it comes to jeans and knows that a good pair needn’t cost the same as a mortgage payment. A good fit can be found on the highstreet: “Dr. Denim or Topshop Baxter. I don’t believe you have to spend a fortune on jeans to get a good fit.”
Shoes
Like most of us, she goes weak at the knees over fabulous footwear. “Shoes are my weakness – actually black boots are my weakness! I have recently acquired Acne Pistols, which I live in, Nickolas Kirkwood for Rodarte wedges (pictured 3) , Nine West lace up ones and Surface to Air buckle wedges.
I have now put a ban in place and am splurging on shoes…colour block ones from River Island and neon cork strappy ones from Buffalo are my most recent purchases!”
Perfume
Angela likes to leave an impression with her scent and she finds strong, masculine scents far more appealing than a bouquet of florals: “I wear aftershave rather than perfume as I hate smelling like other people and the often, too sweet, scents around. I go between Hermes and Maison Martin Margiela at the moment.”
Hair
When it comes to hair, Angela is a no fuss kind of girl, which is evident in her no frizz, sleek and shiny red hair. Though with Irish hair guru Maurice Flynn as a close friend she’s picked up a few simple styling techniques: “Centre part and lived in! I flip my head upside down and rough blow dry. If I’m feeling high maintenance I’ll throw a wand on for a loose wave – Maurice forced me to invest and I love it!”
