Accessory Alert: White Watches

As ironic as it may sound, a watch is a timeless accessory and one that more than likely stays with you for many years. However expensive they may be, a good watch is an investment that goes beyond mere time-telling in the age of technology.

For men, watches are sturdy one-for-all pieces, often of the expensive Swiss variant. As for ladies wristwear, we are endowed with a wealth of options and are more inclined to follow trends. For the most part, we are predisposed to luxury with watches in precious metals such as goldand silver.

The chronograph watch, as resurrected by Karl Lagerfeld for Chanel many seasons ago has outshone all other styles since, doing away with the traditionally dainty ladies wristwatch. This particular timepiece – with trademark large, round face, various dials and ceramic white strap – has become a staple wristwatch for all ladies, either to be worn on its own or teamed with a number of bracelets and bangles.

Coming into Ireland’s ‘summer months’, white watches are a lighter choice,  providing an easy option for lifting an outfit that may be made for coping with hazardous weather, i.e. bulky and full of layers!

As always, we at What She Wears have our own personal favourites, such as this vintage inspired timepiece by Olivia Burton London. A beautiful take on the white watch trend, Olivia’s delicate gold accents and Roman numerals prevent this piece from being too showy. Available from or in-stores at Harvey Nichols, this watch is available for the more than reasonable price of €81.

This SS13, watches are larger than ever with minimal touches of gold and silver, as white is the shade to accessorise with. Eva Mendes is pictured above (main image) wearing a classic white wristwatch, which is the main accessory in her otherwise pared-back ensemble.

For those looking to make a statement á la Eva Mendes, Tommy Hilfiger and Rado are your best port of call. With higher price points, these established labels offer a more luxurious and hard-wearing timepiece.
